Mama Enlightenment Tanzania (MET) is a Non-Government Organization, established in 2022 with registration number 00NGO/R/3517.
The reasons behind its establishment is the fact that enlightenment of the mother is the community liberation as the saying goes ‘educating the woman is educating the nation.’
As it is well known that Some of the sociocultural factors that prevent women and girls to benefit from quality health and education services and attaining the best possible level of education and health include:
• unequal power relationships between men and women.
• social norms that decrease education and paid employment opportunities.
• an exclusive focus on women’s reproductive roles; and
• potential or actual experience of physical, sexual and emotional violence.
While poverty is an important barrier to positive education and health outcomes for both men and women, poverty tends to yield a higher burden on women and girls’ health and education due to culture and norms, women marginalization, inferiority complex, lack of enough knowledge and exposure on how to handle day to day challenges, lack of capital (which force the family to choose between educating a girl child or a boy child) etc
Mama enlightenment as the name suggests is the non-for-profit organization aims to enlighten the family member especially a woman on matters relating to their day-to-day life, and help the family to see problems as opportunities as well as to be self-reliant economically and mentally.
